Methodology
How to read PatchRecord results, and the limits that apply to them.
What Meta Ranking means
Meta Ranking is a patch-informed balance assessment, rated from 1.0 to 10.0. It reads the published changes to a weapon and rates the overall balance direction within one class and game mode. Higher means its patch history has favoured it more.
It is not a measured win rate or combat-strength result. A weapon rated low can still be strong, and one rated high can still be weak. It is also not a popularity or loadout-usage list.
A weapon with no usable directional patch evidence starts at 5.0 and is labelled provisional. That is a starting point, not proof that the weapon has never changed.
Which changes count
- Changes with clear before and after numbers count, in proportion to their size.
- Clearly described buffs or nerfs, and fixes that clearly help or hinder a weapon, can affect the rating by a limited amount. No measured percentage is invented for them.
- General bug fixes with no clear effect on play, a new value with no earlier value, and changes with unclear scope stay visible in the history but do not move the rating.
- Attachments and weapons from older titles are not included.
- Not every weapon changes in every update. A refresh can find no new notes, and then ratings stay as they are.
How weapons are compared
Weapons are only compared with others in the same class and the same game mode. An assault rifle is never ranked against a sniper rifle. Weapons with equal results share a place, and a weapon's place does not change when you search, sort or page through the list.
Multiplayer and Warzone stay separate
Multiplayer and Warzone have their own balance and their own histories, even for weapons with the same name. Information from one mode is never used to fill in the other. Each mode also moves to a new annual title on its own schedule.
Missing information
Every rating shows its evidence level: Established, Developing, Limited or Provisional. Lower confidence is shown openly; missing information is never filled in or invented. Where a weapon's history has gaps, it is marked as partial.
Each weapon on Summary shows the dated changes currently held, with links to where they came from.
Corrections and reversals
A correction fixes a mistake in a record and does not change the game. A reversal is a later update that undoes an earlier change; both stay visible in the history.
